The climb begins as you head northwest, navigating through scree toward Stella Point on the crater rim. The trek to Stella Point, located at 5,685 meters, is often considered the most mentally and physically demanding portion of the climb, typically taking around 6 hours. Upon reaching Stella Point, take a brief rest to absorb the breathtaking views and, if conditions allow, witness a magnificent sunrise. The journey continues with a 2-hour snow-covered ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Your time at the summit should be brief due to the cold and potential fatigue, so make sure to capture the moment quickly.
Afterward, you will descend back to Barafu Camp, a trek that takes about 3 hours, where you’ll have a chance for a short rest before continuing on to Mweka Camp for dinner and your overnight stay.
