This 15-day adventure combines a thrilling Kilimanjaro climb with an unforgettable safari experience, perfectly suited for those seeking both the challenge of summiting Africa’s highest peak and the wonder of Tanzania’s most iconic wildlife. The trek begins with a scenic transfer to your hotel in Moshi, followed by a pre-trekking briefing to prepare for the climb. 

Over the next few days, you’ll ascend through lush rainforests and alpine deserts, reaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Uhuru Peak, on Day 6. After descending, you’ll be ready for the next phase of your adventure—a safari. For the best experience, we recommend scheduling your safari between June and October, as this period aligns with the spectacular Great Migration in the Serengeti.

On safari, you’ll explore Tarangire National Park, where you’ll witness wildlife congregating around water sources, before experiencing the cultural richness of Lake Eyasi with the Hadzabe and Datoga tribes. Your journey continues to the Serengeti, where the migration spectacle unfolds across the plains. Witness massive herds of wildebeests and zebras crossing the Mara River, a breathtaking sight. 

The final part of your safari takes you to the Ngorongoro Crater, home to an abundance of wildlife in one of the world’s most unique ecosystems. Whether you’re trekking to the top of Kilimanjaro or exploring the vast landscapes of Tanzania, this adventure promises an unparalleled combination of natural beauty and cultural immersion.

As you arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our dedicated driver will be there to warmly greet you, holding a sign with your name for a personal touch. You will then enjoy a seamless transfer to the enchanting to your Hotel, where a delicious meal awaits you. Following this, our experienced mountain coordinators and your guide will conduct a pre-trekking briefing, giving you valuable insights into the wonders that lie ahead during your expedition.

Moshi to Marangu Gate | Mandara Hut

After breakfast, your adventure begins with a 1-hour drive from Moshi to the Marangu Gate, where you’ll complete the necessary registration formalities. Once the paperwork is done, you’ll embark on your trek through the lush rainforest. The trail to Mandara Hut, your first camp, involves a steady uphill hike, providing opportunities to spot playful monkeys and various wildlife along the way.

Upon reaching Mandara, you’ll be welcomed with a warm meal and settle into comfortable A-frame huts for the night. In the evening, you can opt for a short acclimatization hike to Maundi Crater, where you can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. This hike not only aids in acclimatization but also allows you to soak in the beauty of your surroundings before continuing your trek .

Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Begin your day with a hearty breakfast at Mandara Hut, fueling up for the exciting trek ahead. As you continue your journey, you’ll traverse through the lush rainforest before transitioning into the moorland zone. The ascent showcases a gradual change in vegetation, giving way to a more rugged and open landscape. This 6-hour trek to Horombo Hut offers stunning views of both Kibo and Mawenzi peaks, making it a memorable leg of your adventure.

Upon arrival at Horombo Hut, you’ll be greeted with a warm meal, giving you the chance to relax and acclimate to the higher altitude. In the evening, your guide will provide a comprehensive briefing about the next day’s trek, ensuring that you’re well-prepared for the challenges ahead. This preparation is key to successfully navigating the upcoming stages of your climb. 

Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut
Altitude:

3,720 meters (12,205 feet)

To assist with acclimatization, you’ll spend an extra day at Horombo Hut, allowing your body more time to adjust to the increasing altitude. This crucial acclimatization day provides the option to either relax at the camp or embark on a short hike to Zebra Rocks, a striking geological feature situated at 3,980 meters above sea level. This acclimatization hike is designed to help your body better cope with the upcoming higher elevations, significantly reducing the risk of altitude sickness.

After your hike, you’ll return to camp for a hearty meal, providing you with the energy needed for the next stages of your journey. In the evening, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss the plans for the next day’s ascent with your guide, ensuring that you’re fully prepared for the challenges ahead. This day is essential for enhancing your chances of a successful summit attempt by allowing your body to acclimatize properly.

Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Today’s trek takes you across the expansive lunar desert known as the Saddle, a rugged and barren landscape stretching between the Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Although the terrain may seem stark and desolate, the awe-inspiring views of the towering peaks on either side are a highlight of this journey. The hike typically takes around 6 hours, allowing plenty of time to soak in the vastness of the landscape and appreciate the unique beauty of this high-altitude environment.

Upon reaching Kibo Hut, you’ll settle in for an early dinner and some much-needed rest, conserving your energy for the upcoming summit attempt. In the evening, your guide will provide a detailed briefing to prepare you for the final ascent, which will begin just before midnight. This briefing is essential, as it covers the route, safety measures, and what to expect during the challenging climb ahead. Proper preparation and rest are crucial for a successful summit bid.

Kibo Hut | Summit Attempt | Horombo Hut
Altitude:

4,700 meters (15,419 feet) – 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) – 3,720 meters (12,205 feet)

12 to 15 hours

Around midnight, you’ll be awakened to begin the final ascent toward Uhuru Peak. The journey to Gillman’s Point at 5,685 meters is steep and strenuous, typically taking around six hours of steady climbing. This challenging section will test your endurance, but your guide will offer support and encouragement along the way.

Once you reach Gillman’s Point, you’ll traverse the crater rim toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. If the weather cooperates, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking sunrise over the continent, a truly unforgettable sight. After celebrating your incredible achievement at the summit, you’ll descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest before continuing onward to Horombo Hut for the night, allowing your body to recover after the exhilarating challenge. 

Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate | Return to Moshi

After breakfast, you’ll start your descent through the diverse moorland and lush rainforest zones, making your way back to Marangu Gate. As you trek downward, take in the final views of the landscape and reflect on your accomplishment. Upon reaching the gate, you’ll be presented with your well-earned summit certificate as a testament to your achievement.

From there, you’ll be driven back to your Hotel in Moshi, where a hot meal, a refreshing shower, and a comfortable bed await you. As this is a combo package, you will receive a pre-safari briefing in the late afternoon. Our safari coordinator will meet with you at the hotel to provide detailed information about your upcoming safari adventure and answer any questions you may have. This briefing will ensure you’re fully prepared for the exciting experiences ahead!

Tarangire National Park

Begin your day with breakfast before setting out on a drive to Tarangire National Park, a prime destination for exceptional wildlife viewing. Known for its vibrant animal populations, especially in the dry season, Tarangire attracts vast herds gathering around its life-sustaining river. 

The park’s varied scenery—ranging from lush savannahs and swamps to rugged hills and towering baobabs—offers an impressive backdrop to observe elephants, zebras, buffalo, and sometimes lions and oryx as they roam in search of water. 

Bird enthusiasts will appreciate the abundant birdlife, while the Tarangire River remains a crucial water source throughout the dry months. After this immersive day of safari exploration, unwind overnight at Endoro Lodge or a similar accommodation, preparing for more adventures ahead.

Cultural Exploration at Lake Eyasi

Start your day with a scenic drive to the shores of Lake Eyasi, a remote and tranquil area that offers a unique cultural and scenic experience. Upon arrival, immerse yourself in the fascinating traditions of the Hadzabe and Datoga communities. The Hadzabe, one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer tribes in East Africa, will share their way of life with you through interactive activities like learning their hunting techniques, using traditional bows and arrows, and discovering how they gather food from the surrounding wilderness. This rare opportunity provides deep insight into a lifestyle that has remained unchanged for centuries.

Next, visit the Datoga people, skilled pastoralists and blacksmiths, who will showcase their metalworking skills, including crafting tools and ornaments from recycled materials. Journey to the North Serengeti

After breakfast, your safari guide will pick you up for a scenic drive to Serengeti, passing through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Along the way, you’ll stop at Olduvai Gorge, a fascinating archaeological site known as the “Cradle of Mankind,” where you can learn about the history of early humans.

Upon entering Serengeti, you’ll be greeted by the sight of the Great Migration, where wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles roam across the plains. The park’s diverse landscapes are home to the Big Five and many other species. In the evening, you’ll arrive at Ikoma Wild Camp, where you can enjoy a thrilling night game drive, observing the Serengeti’s nocturnal wildlife in its natural habitat.

Witness the Great Migration at Mara River

After breakfast, you’ll head to the Mara River in the Northern Serengeti, where the incredible Great Migration unfolds.
