Arrival

As you arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our dedicated driver will be there to warmly greet you, holding a sign with your name for a personal touch. You will then enjoy a seamless transfer to the enchanting to your Hotel, where a delicious meal awaits you. Following this, our experienced mountain coordinators and your guide will conduct a pre-trekking briefing, giving you valuable insights into the wonders that lie ahead during your expedition.

Moshi to Marangu Gate | Mandara Hut

After breakfast, your adventure begins with a 1-hour drive from Moshi to the Marangu Gate, where you’ll complete the necessary registration formalities. Once the paperwork is done, you’ll embark on your trek through the lush rainforest. The trail to Mandara Hut, your first camp, involves a steady uphill hike, providing opportunities to spot playful monkeys and various wildlife along the way.

Upon reaching Mandara, you’ll be welcomed with a warm meal and settle into comfortable A-frame huts for the night. In the evening, you can opt for a short acclimatization hike to Maundi Crater, where you can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. This hike not only aids in acclimatization but also allows you to soak in the beauty of your surroundings before continuing your trek .

Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut

To assist with acclimatization, you’ll spend an extra day at Horombo Hut, allowing your body more time to adjust to the increasing altitude. This crucial acclimatization day provides the option to either relax at the camp or embark on a short hike to Zebra Rocks, a striking geological feature situated at 3,980 meters above sea level. This acclimatization hike is designed to help your body better cope with the upcoming higher elevations, significantly reducing the risk of altitude sickness.

After your hike, you’ll return to camp for a hearty meal, providing you with the energy needed for the next stages of your journey. In the evening, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss the plans for the next day’s ascent with your guide, ensuring that you’re fully prepared for the challenges ahead. This day is essential for enhancing your chances of a successful summit attempt by allowing your body to acclimatize properly.

Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Today’s trek takes you across the expansive lunar desert known as the Saddle, a rugged and barren landscape stretching between the Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Although the terrain may seem stark and desolate, the awe-inspiring views of the towering peaks on either side are a highlight of this journey. The hike typically takes around 6 hours, allowing plenty of time to soak in the vastness of the landscape and appreciate the unique beauty of this high-altitude environment.

Upon reaching Kibo Hut, you’ll settle in for an early dinner and some much-needed rest, conserving your energy for the upcoming summit attempt. In the evening, your guide will provide a detailed briefing to prepare you for the final ascent, which will begin just before midnight. This briefing is essential, as it covers the route, safety measures, and what to expect during the challenging climb ahead. Proper preparation and rest are crucial for a successful summit bid.

Kibo Hut | Summit Attempt | Horombo Hut

Altitude:

: 4,700 meters (15,419 feet) – 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) – 3,720 meters (12,205 feet)

Hiking & descending time:

12 to 15 hours

Around midnight, you’ll be awakened to begin the final ascent toward Uhuru Peak. The journey to Gillman’s Point at 5,685 meters is steep and strenuous, typically taking around six hours of steady climbing. This challenging section will test your endurance, but your guide will offer support and encouragement along the way.

Once you reach Gillman’s Point, you’ll traverse the crater rim toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. If the weather cooperates, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking sunrise over the continent, a truly unforgettable sight. After celebrating your incredible achievement at the summit, you’ll descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest before continuing onward to Horombo Hut for the night, allowing your body to recover after the exhilarating challenge.

Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate | Return to Moshi

Descending time:

4-5 hours

After breakfast, you’ll start your descent through the diverse moorland and lush rainforest zones, making your way back to Marangu Gate. As you trek downward, take in the final views of the landscape and reflect on your accomplishment. Upon reaching the gate, you’ll be presented with your well-earned summit certificate as a testament to your achievement.

From there, you’ll be driven back to your Hotel in Moshi, where a hot meal, a refreshing shower, and a comfortable bed await you.
